Technological breakthroughs needed

Some hope that technology ventures will save the day with breakthroughs in one critical area: energy storage.

Batteries are required for vehicles disconnected from the electrical grid, as much as solutions for storing electricity must cover the gaps of intermittent solar and wind energy.

Green technology must progress to deliver the holy grail of cheap energy storage. This is even more crucial considering that regulation-taxation approach may remain slow to impose energy-efficiency norms, and considering that nuclear fusion (hydrogen based) is probably too far away from commercial power plants with endless energy supply and liquid hydrogen production.
